January the 6th is an important date for anyone who’s in Cake-love. It’s a special date to celebrate with a very special cake, the so called King Cake. That’s already cool but in Italy there’s even something more about 6th of January :-): La Befana fills up stockings with nuts, fruit and chocolate and brings presents for all the good children, and a lump of coal for the naughty ones.
Yay, I’m an Italian baker, so my plan for today was to make “La focaccia della befana” which is a super delicious brioche filled up with candied orange. I prepared to bake it up this morning and I just wanted to bake these small delicious cantuccini for selling them in my onlinestore before baking the befana-brioche … when my oven suddenly stopped working (noooo!)!
I ended up baking the cantuccini in M’s place, which was fun :-), but my “focaccia della befana” has to wait until tomorrow morning …
Tonight I’ll buy a new oven and I’ll buy a very sophisticated one - woohoo :-)!!
PS Of course, I should mention that “i tre magi” mean a lot more than eating cake! January the 6th (or the first Sunday of January) is a Holy date commemorating the Twelfth Night when the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem bearing gifts for baby Jesus.
